Waste permits

There are five Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) in Bedfordshire where householders can recycle and dispose of their household waste.

These sites are provided for householders only and are not for trade/commercial users.

Household Waste Recycling Centres accept:

  • glass bottles/jars;
  • cardboard;
  • 'green' garden waste;
  • newspapers;
  • textiles/shoes;
  • scrap metal;
  • wood;
  • white goods;
  • car batteries,
  • used engine oil;
  • gas cylinders;
  • paint; and
  • fridges/freezers.

Sites do not accept

  • asbestos;
  • hazardous waste;
  • sectioned trees (with a girth > 30cm);
  • animal faeces/bedding or any trade/commercial waste.

Small quantities of demolition waste (soil, brick, rubble, doors, household fitted items) are accepted, even if it is from your own home.

Disposal of furniture

If you're looking to dispose of furniture in a reasonable condition, working white goods or electrical items in working condition then stop!

There are many local charities across Bedfordshire looking to pass your items on to those in need. Please  consider our alternatives to landfill, such as local charities in need| or scrap metal and aggregate recycling| before considering a waste permit.
