Introduction
The Second Bedfordshire Local Transport Plan
This document is the Local Transport Plan (LTP) for Bedfordshire for the period 2006/7 to 2010/11. It was submitted to the Department for Transport (DfT) and Government Office for the East of England (GO-East) on 31st March 2006. Progress made in delivering this LTP will be reported periodically, in accordance with Government requirements. Some minor amendments have been made to the LTP since its submission to the DfT and GO-East; a list of these is available on request from the address below.
Most local transport authorities are required to prepare a LTP every five years. This is the second such document that we have developed. Reference is made in this document to LTP1, for the period 2001/2 to 2005/6, to LTP2 for the period 2006/07 to 2010/11, and to LTP3 for 2011/12 to 2015/16.
The LTP is the main way that local transport is improved. It does this in three ways. Firstly, the LTP shows how the various areas of policy and strategy that influence transport systems are coordinated. Secondly, the LTP defines a plan of action in terms of the transport related improvements that people will see in the next five years. Thirdly, the LTP sets out how the effectiveness of what we do will be measured.
This plan covers the county of Bedfordshire with the exception of the Dunstable and Houghton Regis areas which are covered in a separate plan, jointly prepared by Luton Borough Council and us.
