A1 Sandy Beeston Bypass
In 2003 the Secretary of State for Transport accepted the recommendations of the London to South Midlands Multi Modal Study that there should be an A1 Bypass of Sandy and Beeston. At that time the Highways Agency was asked to do further development work on the scheme, which if taken forward, could be implemented around 2015.
Investment decisions on schemes on trunk roads of regional significance, such as the A1 Sandy/Beeston Bypass, are now subject to advice from the regional planning body, the East of England Regional Assembly, on regional priorities. Decisions on all schemes and commitment for funding remain with the Secretary of State for Transport. The Regional Assembly has identified a list of transport schemes, including schemes on trunk roads, for funding from the regional transport "pot" in the period 2005-16. This list was submitted to central government in January. The A1 Sandy/Beeston Bypass is not on the list and is not recommended for funding before 2016.
