Passport for life
Passport For Life is a initiative unique to Bedfordshire County Council, providing a seamless road safety education programme throughout school life.
The purpose of this initiative is to meet the government target of reducing all road accident casualties by 40%, and child accident casualties by 50% by 2010.
The aim of the Passport For Life initiative is to promote, support and encourage a co-ordinated approach to road safety continuously throughout Lower, Middle and Upper Schools.
As a partnership between Road Safety, schools and the wider community the objectives are:
-
To reduce child casualty accidents
-
To train young road users to be more aware of their own environment and take ownership of their own safety whilst travelling on the roads
-
To create and develop a safe and attractive way of teaching road safety throughout the child's life
-
To provide a seamless road safety education programme throughout school life
Every year Road Safety Education, Training and Publicity encourages schools, parents and children to take part in road safety education programmes, projects and campaigns locally and nationally.
Not all children have been privileged to participate in the road safety education, advice and training offered; therefore this initiative will go some way to address the gaps in road safety education previously encountered.
