The Wixams

The Wixams is a new settlement, centred on the old Elstow Storage Depot, five kilometres South of Bedford.  This new development will be one of the largest new communities to be built in the UK. The 750-acre settlement will feature:

• 4,500 new homes (25% of which will be affordable)
• an employment area, providing over a million square feet of office space
• a proposed new railway station
• six new schools – three lower, two middle and one upper
• a town centre
• four new villages
• a primary care centre
• a town park
• a wide range of shops
• a library
• a sports hall
• over 300 acres of parkland and public open space
• over 1 million square feet of employment space
• a series of lakes, water bodies and wetland areas
