Bedford Western Bypass
Bedford western bypass
The scheme involves the construction of a single carriageway bypass to the west of Bedford and Kempston, Bedfordshire. The proposed route is some 5.1 km in length and will pass from the A428 Bromham Bypass on the east side of the river for approximately 1.5 km. The route then passes southwards crossing the River Great Ouse flood plain; Cemetery Road, Kempston; Ridge Road, Kempston to meet the A421 Trunk Road at Woburn Road, Kempston. The length of the scheme to be constructed is 3.6 km.
The main purpose of the scheme is to link existing sections of road around the Bedford and Kempston area, substantially completing the strategy for Western and Southern bypasses of the towns, By doing so this will improve the efficiency, safety and reliability of journeys around the area, relieve the community of through traffic, improve accessibility and also assist in delivery of the East Midlands and Milton Keynes Development Strategy.
The scheme is under construction with progress and news letters| from the site.
