Support for children with HIV

Social Services and a number of voluntary organisations work with families where a member is HIV positive to deal with any immediate problems, and to help the family plan for the long term care of children. For further information, contact your local Social Services office.

Voluntary groups

Barnardo's SOFAH| service (Services Organised for Families Affected by HIV/AIDS) is a support service for families affected by HIV/AIDS.

SOFAH aims to:

  • enable children, young people and families to make informed choices in relation to their individual circumstances
  • provide support in eliminating isolation/stigma


SOFAH offers a variety of services including:

  • support, information and advice
  • counselling
  • benefits advice and support with practical issues
  • assistance to contact other services and agencies

Grandma's (headoffice@grandmas.org.uk|) is a church based organisation which aims to provide practical help to children and families affected by HIV/AIDS.
