Looked after children
Every year for a wide range of reasons a number of young people are placed in the care of Children's Services. Whilst some will stay in residential units run by Children's Services others will be given family placements with foster carers or placed for adoption. Once these young people reach adulthood many of them become care leavers and continue to need our support. In all of these circumstances it is recognised that this is a highly emotional and stressful time for these young people. The Looked After Children and Leaving Care Service provides support to meet the needs of these young people and also to minimise the risk of them becoming the victims of crime and anti-social behaviour. It also works with them, alongside other agencies, to prevent them being drawn into crime or anti-social behaviour, and to achieve to their potential in all aspects of their life.
