What services are available to Bedfordshire Carers?

Following an assessment or annual review Bedfordshire County Council may give services to carers who care for people who meet the following Fair Access To Care |(FACS) criteria:

  • critical band - where there is an immediate crisis which threatens a person’s current or future independence
  • substantial band – where there is a substantial risk to a person’s current or future independence.

Carers Services can provide alternative care for the person you look after. This short break gives you the opportunity to:

  • have time to yourself
  • spend time with other people
  • pursue social, educational or employment opportunities
  • access practical or emotional help in your caring situation.

You can arrange for carers services in a way that works best for you. This can be through:

  •  vouchers (PDF Icon pdf opens in new window)
  • direct payments, or
  • the worker contracting services on your behalf to provide the help you need.

 Carer’s services are free. This is irrespective of:

  • your financial circumstances
  • the financial circumstances of the person you care for
  • whether you are a student
  • if you are in paid employment; or
  • you have retired.
