October 2008 - Bedfordshire Carers Summit

The 9th October, 9.30am-1.30pm is your chance to find out about the new National Carers Strategy, what's happening now for Bedfordshire Carers and to help plan the future. 

Tony RobinsonThe event is being jointly run by Bedfordshire County Council and Carers in Bedfordshire.  Guests include Tony Robinson (from television's Blackadder and Time Team who is a celebrity carers champion); Carers UK and the Princess Royal Trust for Carers as well as local carers and organisations.

August 2008 - Bedfordshire Carers Helpline Launch

Bedfordshire carers can now access information, advice, guidance and get in touch with local carers organisations by just calling a single number.

The Helpline is being supported by a series of radio adverts with the voice of Tony Robinson from television's Blackadder and Time Team who is a champion of carers.

 

Flying without wings

Young carers standing by aircraftBedfordshire County Council, in partnership with Spurgeons, Beds Rural Communities Charity and 'Freedom in the Air' arranged for a group of 10 young carers to take part in a flying day at Cranfield Airfield on Saturday 28th June 2008.  Read here |for more details of the day.

 

 

June 2008 - New national carers strategy launched

The government has set out its 10 year vision for carers 'at the heart of 21st century communities'.  An extra £150 million will be avaliable through local authorities and primary care trusts to help carers continue caring, take a break, go to work and access health support.

Young carers will also receive an extra £6 million to help them continue in education.
