P3 Risk Assessments
Whatever it is you are doing - we like to keep you safe! Risk Assessments are an established an simple way of helping us to do this. We have assessments for leading walks and for clearing vegetation and lifting, as well as for using some power tools.

Guidelines for use
1. Fill in - Assessors
Date
Name of First Aider
Site, grid reference or FP/BW number
Names of Volunteers
Nearest phone / mobile for emergencies
2. Look at HAZARDS – strike out those not relevant to the task in hand
3. For each remaining hazard and each PRECAUTION tick the boxes either YES or NO.
Decisions
a. If all YES boxes are ticked then the risk is acceptably low and you may continue with the task(s)
b. If any of the NO boxes are ticked then you must further assess the risk putting any precautions in place before continuing with the task(s).
If you consider the risk too great then contact the P3 officer to discuss with them how the task(s) may be made safer.
When to fill in the form(s)
Having a risk assessment to refer to for each task is essential. However – this does NOT mean you have to fill in a new form every time you work.
Your Group may only work on certain types of task e.g. putting in gates, strimming or clearing vegetation. You can fill in the risk assessment for this task and need only change the details about date, site, grid reference etc. in the first six boxes. Having a first aider on site is not essential but strongly reccommended. Contact the P3 officer to arrange this. You will need to look at the risk assessment each time to check that all the precautions are in place.
Where you have tasks / events that happen as a one off, you will need to make sure you have a completed risk assessment to refer to. If you have any queries or should need more risk assessment forms please contact the P3 officer Steve Halton on (01234) 228426, steve.halton@bedscc.gov.uk|
