Bedfordshire's Mission Statement makes a commitment 'to enable all individuals and communities in Bedfordshire to reach their full potential.' High calibre teachers are crucial to this process.

The Local Authority maintains 221 schools and 4 pupil referral units and over 3500 teachers are employed. The three -tier system of school organisation (ie. Lower, Middle and Upper) is well established with the 9-13 Middle school being sought by many teachers who want experience of the primary/secondary interface.

The Strategy is reviewed annually to ensure that priorities reflect current concerns.
