How do I get a bus pass?

You do not need to apply for a bus pass as the information is automatically forwarded from the schools for assessment once the pupil has been enrolled.

During May and June schools send through the admissions lists of all pupils starting in September. Each pupil is then individually assessed for free transport.

Denominational schools submit a list of new pupils and confirms which have entered the school on denominational grounds. We then assess whether they are eligible for free transport.

Entitled pupils

Bus passes are produced during the summer holidays. For pupil 's starting at a new school a bus pass and timetable will be sent to the home address. If there are any changes to existing routes you will be notified during the Summer holiday.

Non-entitled pupils

If your child is not entitled to free home-to-school transport there may be transport routes operating to the school which your child is attending. If the route is a registered public route a bus pass can be purchased directly from the operator. If the route is not a registered route a concessionary bus pass may be purchased from the Integrated Passenger Transport Unit.

A concessionary bus pass can be applied for on a termly basis for pupils wishing to travel on school contract routes but who are not entitled to free home-to-school transport. An application form is available from the Integrated Passenger Transport Unit. Please note that concessionary passes are only offered if there are available spaces on the bus.
