Parking Perfect!

30 April 2008

Pupils at Renhold Lower School, Renhold, have come up with an ingenious idea to encourage people to park safely outside their school.

Following repeated problems with parents parking on zig-zagged lines, in an unofficial layby and on a private piece of land nearby, the school has organised a competition. Students will design a leaflet to stop people parking dangerously and will give the winning flyer to parents dropping off and picking up children from the school. A school governor will choose the winning design.

The school have arranged for pupils to work with local police who will be on hand on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning this week distributing the leaflets.

Councillor Rita Drinkwater, Bedfordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Education said: "Getting the pupils of Renhold Lower involved in this way is important and will help to send the right message to all concerned. The children involved in producing the designs for the leaflet have enjoyed the competition immensely and we hope that they, along with police, will make sure the parking problem at the school is soon alleviated."
