25 June 2008
Bedfordshire County Council has been joined by three Special Constables who will be working alongside the Community Safety and Trading Standard Services.
Special Constables Russell Mapley, Karen Connolly and returning Special Constable Angela Williamson will now assist with County Council initiatives such as the No Cold Calling Zones and the Confident Communities Fund.
Russell previously worked at Vauxhall and Karen previously worked in IT Recruitment. Angela has re-joined the team after building her experiences as a trainee Constable with Thames Valley Police.
Cllr Bob King, Bedfordshire County Council Cabinet member for Community Services, said: "We are really pleased that Russell, Karen and Angela have joined the County Council as Special Constables. It just goes to show how people from diverse backgrounds can join the us as Special Constables.
"Last year, the Special Constables proved an invaluable resource across the Community Safety and Trading Standard services, assisting residents with the No Cold Calling Zones and acting as our Rapid Response team when unwanted or bogus callers knocked on residents’ doors.
"This work will now continue with our three new Special Constables, who together can bring a mixture of expertise and experiences to their new roles."
Special Constable Russell Mapley, said: "I think I speak for all three of us when I say that we are very excited to be a part of this innovative scheme.
"The job is completely different from my day job before and I really look forward to working closely with the local community in Bedfordshire"
