Revamped A6 boost for Bedfordshire

 7 May 2008

Bedfordshire County Council has taken back possession and ownership of the new realigned A6 which is part of the new sustainable community, the Wixams.

Councillor Tom Wootton, Bedfordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Transport: said "I am delighted to be in the unusual position of taking over responsibility of a new road.

"The project means 4,500 new homes and six new schools for the local community and with numerous leisure, sport and community facilities, there will be many new jobs and opportunities for local residents.

"We are very proud to be a part of this new sustainable community and our involvement shows our commitment to the local community."

The Wixams development is part of Bedfordshire County Council’s priorities to effectively manage growth, and bring 90,000 new homes and 50,000 new jobs to Bedfordshire by 2031.
