Leighton Buzzard Resident Wins Home Composting Competition
19 June 2008
A resident of Leighton Buzzard has been announced as Bedfordshire’s lucky winner of the Recycle Now |Home Composting ‘Golden Bin’ competition this week.
The winning resident ordered a compost bin as part of Compost Awareness Week celebrations in May, and is now the lucky winner of £50 of garden centre vouchers, donated by DHL, the logistics company that delivers compost bins for the Recycle Now Compost at Home Campaign.
Linda Rodell, Recycling Officer at Bedfordshire County Council, said: "By using a home compost bin, you can recycle up to one third of household waste. This includes both kitchen and garden waste and ‘brown’ waste like toilet roll tubes and egg boxes. Not only does the free, home-made compost keep the garden in bloom, but it will also be reducing the amount of methane - a dangerous climate change gas - that is released into the atmosphere when waste decomposes in landfill."
Those who missed out on this year’s Compost Awareness Week need not fear - cut-price compost bins are available to buy throughout the year. To find out what bins are available, residents can log on to the website or phone 0845 077 0757.
