Want to discover your family history?

We’re fascinated by family history as popular TV programmes show, but how do you begin researching your own ancestry?

To help people get started, Bedfordshire and Luton Archives and Records Service is running another series of Family History courses for beginners.

The first half-day course on 20 November in Bedford will cover how to begin your research, use archive sources and Family History websites. You’ll get the chance to handle and explore original material with expert guidance and you don’t need to have Bedfordshire ancestry!

The course will run from 9.30am to 12.30pm and costs £15. For more information and to book a place, please contact us|.

A participant in a previous workshop said: I now know where to start.  The handouts are clear and particularly relevant – a very enjoyable and informative morning!”

Archives staff are also considering running more advanced courses for family historians on records relating to the military, the poor, crime and other areas of interest. They also intend to hold hour-long ‘surgeries’ so that experienced researchers can make the most of the subject expertise of the archivists, so get in touch if you’re interested (dates, times and costs of these events are to be confirmed).
