Cost of archives and records service

Budget

Archives and Records is a small but important Service which looks after the collective written heritage or 'memory' of the County. As anyone familiar with TV programmes such as 'Who do you think you are?' will know, seeing and using historic records of people and places can inspire and move people. It can make a difference to their lives and how they view their community and environment - the experience can strengthen their sense of identity.

However, the Service is not just about family and local history as a leisure interest. The Service deals with practical 'citizen' issues - e.g. locating drains, proving ownership of land, researching land contamination, evidence of decisions etc. As such, it underpins the Council's work and is important in ensuring efficient record keeping across all Services.
