Hulcote Before 1086

The Bedfordshire Historic Environment Record [HER] contains information on the county's historic buildings and landscapes and summaries of each entry can now be found online as part of the Heritage Gateway website|. There are two mentions of early occupation in Hulcote.

In 1977 the occupant of Holcotmoors Farm| stated that sherds were found when a sump was dug. They were sent to London for dating and were said to be "very early" – presumably meaning prehistoric [HER 8393].

North of Salford Road in a field called Cucksey Bushes is a cropmark [HER 16490]. It appears to represent a prehistoric enclosure, no more accurate dating is possible due to a lack of artefacts from the site.
