The Parish Before 1086

Georges Square about 1900
George's Square about 1900

A few stray clues show that the area which would become Aspley Heath was settled well before the Middle Ages. For example, there is an earthwork dating from the Iron Age| called Danesborough just over the county boundary in Bow Brickhill [Buckinghamshire].

In 1769 a Roman amphora was found in a sand pit on The Heath, somewhere near Longslade. Longslade Cottage lies very close to what has been presumed to be a Roman road.
