The Milton Keynes and South Midlands Strategy, a part of the East of England Plan, proposes housing growth of around 60,000 dwellings for the Bedfordshire and Luton area over the period 2001 to 2021.  This has been translated into a net new job requirement of around 50,000 over the same period.

In January 2007 Bedfordshire County Council commissioned a research study from TBR Economics into the recent growth (in jobs and GVA) of the Bedfordshire and Luton economies and the key contributory sectors, clusters, and companies.

The stated objective was to verify recent trend indications, and identify which sectors, clusters or other groupings of companies might best help grow the local economy further and as rapidly as necessary.  Please read the PDF Icon Report| (PDF document opens in new window) for more information.
